John Byrne gives 3 tips on how to get the best head shots.
1. Ditch the DIY
No matter how good your friend is at amateur photography, there is an art to a good headshot, so hire a professional. You need to make sure the professional specialises in headshots. Great wedding or baby pictures are also an art form – but a very different one.
2. Does your face fit?
Different types of headshots suit different types of roles. Make sure you know your type and are clear about the roles you are seeking before you book your session. A good photographer will make suggestions, but ultimately it is your face in the final picture so be clear on what you want to achieve.
3. Excellent doesn't equal expensive
Shop around, get referrals from other performers and get an idea of the going rate before your start getting quote. Whatever price you agree on, make sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money. Remember to keep receipts as your headshot is a tax deductible expense.
